game as the red-hot Chicago White Stockings defeated the Washington Nationals
13 to 9 at West Side Park.

Chicago brought 6 runs across the plate in the bottom of the 3rd inning when
they came up with 7 base hits.  They ended up being the winning runs.
Washington threatened in the 9th but their rally came up short.  

The winning pitcher was Van Haltren(2-0) who allowed 9 runs for the game. The
loss was charged to Jim Whitney(7-10).  He allowed a few too many baserunners
giving up 19 hits and 2 walks in 8 innings.
