Yogi Berra hit a grand slam at Fenway Park as the Pittsburgh Pirates beat the
slumping Boston-AL Red Sox 11 to 9.
Berra enjoyed a fine day at the plate. He depressed the partisan hometown fans
with a grand slam home run in the 2nd inning, stroked a one-base hit scoring
a run in the 4th inning and laced a single in the 6th inning. Boston-AL
threatened in the 9th but Pittsburgh was able to put down the rally.
Vinegar Bend Mizell(7-7) went 5 innings allowing 4 runs for the victory. Joe
Presko(3-7) was the losing pitcher. He allowed a few too many baserunners
giving up 6 hits and 2 walks in 2 innings.
