5,538 fans were treated to a fine game at Griffith Stadium as only one run
separated the combatants at game's end.  The Washington Nationals won by the
slimmest of margins, 4 to 3.

The score was tied at 3 after nine.  Washington was victorious in the 10th
inning.  Heinie Wagner slapped a single.  Gordon Renaud then called for a
steal which was successful.  Ed Konetchy then laced a single making
Washington victorious to the delight of the the home town crowd.  The teams
had been locked in a scoreless duel until the 6th inning.  

The win was credited to Pat Ragan(1-0) who went 1 inning allowing no runs.
George Mullin(4-3) was given the loss in relief.  It was a tough loss for him
as he did not allow an earned run in his 1 inning of work.
