They almost ran out of baseballs at Griffith Stadium as Washington Nationals
clobbered the Philadelphia-NL Phillies pitching staff, scoring 10 runs while
Ralph Branca(4-10), with relief help from Carl Erskine, held Philadelphia-NL
to 1 run.

Philadelphia-NL fell behind quickly as the Washington offense came through in
the first inning as they scored 6 runs on 5 base hits.  That scoring would be
all that was needed.  After the 4th inning, neither team was able to score.

Bob Rush(6-6) was the losing pitcher.  His ERA increased from 4.90 to 5.35 as
he allowed 6 runs in 2 innings.  Wth the win Washington now has a record of
33-51.  With this loss, Philadelphia-NL has a 3-7 record of late, 50-34
overall.
