WEB GEMS- Top 3rd: Kid Baldwin blocked the plate, saving a run!

George Pechiney completed the game without help from the bullpen and Kid
Baldwin lofted one into the 'cheap seats' and had 6 RBI as the Cincinnati Red
Stockings destroyed the Philadelphia Athletics by a score of 22 to 12 at
League Park.

Baldwin was a one-man wrecking crew. He doubled plating three runs in the 3rd
inning, lined a single bringing in a run in the 5th inning and blasted a
two-run home run in the 6th inning. Cincinnati bats were very productive in
the 3rd inning which saw them score 9 runs on 5 hits, the 6th inning with 4
runs on 5 hits and the 7th inning which saw them plate 4 runs on 4 hits. The
Cincinnati offense poured it on, scoring in 7 of the 9 innings.

The victory was credited to Pechiney(8-7) who went the distance, allowing 12
runs. Ed Clark(0-1) absorbed the loss. He served up 4 homeruns in his 8
innings.
