Jim Scott pitched a 1 hit shutout as the Chicago White Sox outscored the St.
Louis Browns in 10 innings 1 to 0.
The score was knotted at zero after nine innings. Finally, Chicago prevailed
in the 10th inning. Lena Blackburne doubled. Ray Demmitt followed next and
he drew a walk. Walt Leverenz then threw one that got by the catcher for a
passed ball. After an out was recorded, Jack Fournier stepped in and he
would hit into a fielders choice making Chicago the victor and beginning a
joyous home town celebration. Chicago finished with just 6 hits in the
victory.
Scott(5-6) went the distance for the shutout. Leverenz(1-3) suffered the loss.
He was a hard-luck loser as he did not allow an earned run in his 9 and 1/3
innings of work.
'Scott gave us exactly what we needed today.' Nixey Callahan said. 'When he
threw the fastball he threw it for strikes. They were really fooled by his
change. Most of the time he had them chasing it.'
