Johnny Sain allowed Allan Kaufman to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete game
at Crosley Field where the phenomenal Boston Red Sox beat the Cincinnati Reds
by the score of 8 to 5.

Boston scored 3 runs in the top of the 6th inning when they had 4 base hits.
Joe Gordon got things rolling when he smashed a solo-shot out of the park.
After an out was recorded, Lou Boudreau came up and he banged out a single.
After another out, Ted Williams then drew a walk. Wally Judnich followed
next and he stroked a single to load the bases. Al Zarilla stepped into the
box and ripped a base-hit accounting for two more runs. Boston managed 14
hits in their victory.

The victory went to Sain(16-5) who went the distance allowing 5 runs. The loss
was charged to Ted Wilks(8-3) in relief. He was knocked around, surrendering
3 runs in 2 innings.
