One run was the difference at Shibe Park as the Cincinnati Reds defeated the
Philadelphia-AL Athletics 4 to 3.

Philadelphia-AL was unable to climb back into it after Cincinnati went ahead
for good in the 2nd inning scoring a single run utilizing 2 base hits.
Philadelphia-AL threatened in the 9th but Cincinnati was able to put down the
rally.  

The win was credited to Ken Raffensberger(8-5) who went 7 innings allowing 1
run. Raffensberger got relief help from Stu Miller who gained credit for his
22nd save.  Vern Bickford(3-5) absorbed the loss.  He pitched 7 innings and
surrendered 7 hits and 1 walk.
