At Ebbets Field, the Brooklyn faithful were treated to an intriguing pitcher's
duel.  Curt Simmons(7-9) finally bested his Washington counterpart, Art
Houtteman(2-7), by the score of 3 to 1.

Simmons pitched a solid game.  He went 7 and 1/3 innings surrendering 7 hits
and 1 walk improving his ERA from 4.51 to 4.24.  Brooklyn had a total of 9
hits for the game.  

Ray Narleski preserved the game for Simmons, recording his his 9th save.
Houtteman was given the loss.  He allowed 3 runs and 9 hits in 8 innings.
