WEB GEMS- Top 9th: Chief Zimmer blocked the plate, saving a run!

Shortstop Herman Long cracked 2 homeruns and scored 4 times and Harry Staley
completed the game without help from the bullpen as the Boston Beaneaters
ballclub embarrassed the Cleveland Spiders by the count of 22 to 3.

Long had a big day against Cleveland. He hit a bases-empty home run in the
1st inning, lashed a single in the 2nd inning, lofted a solo-blast 'downtown'
in the 6th inning and ripped a base-knock in the 7th inning. Boston provided
plenty of action in the 8th inning which saw them plate 8 runs on 4 hits.
The Boston offense was great, scoring in 8 of the 9 innings.

The victory went to Staley(7-5) who went the distance allowing 3 runs. John
Clarkson(10-6) suffered the loss. He allowed 23 hits and 3 walks in 9
innings.
