WEB GEMS- Top 4th: Nap Rucker robbed Steve Yerkes of a base hit.

In a thriller the Cincinnati Reds staged a dramatic comeback then held on to
win over the New York-NL Giants by a score of 4 to 3 at Polo
Grounds.

Cincinnati came through with the game-winning runs in the 9th inning with 3
runs using 3 hits. Hal Chase got things going when he lashed a single. Two
outs later Tommy Clarke came to bat and drew a walk. Germany Schaefer then
slapped a one-base hit plating a run. Fred Luderus was up next and he
delivered a single plating one more runner. Nap Lajoie stepped into the box
and drew a walk to load the bases. Josh Devore kept the inning going and
reached on an error scoring the final run of the inning. Cincinnati totaled
7 hits on the afternoon.

The victory was credited to Ed Summers(8-5) who went 1 inning, allowing no
runs. Summers was helped out by Pat Ragan who recorded his 7th save. Bill
Burns(4-4) was charged with the loss in relief. He allowed 3 runs and 2 hits
in 1 and 2/3 innings.

Rob Hickok was feeling mighty fine as he answered questions in his office
after the game, 'Now that was one fine ending! Did you see how the crowd just
sat there in silence after the winning run scored? Here we are celebrating
wildly, and the stadium is cloaked in virtual silence. Weird. but GREAT!'
