Don Newcombe tossed a shutout and he rocketed 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI as the
Washington Nationals topped the Philadelphia-NL Phillies by a score of 6 to 0
at Griffith Stadium.

Newcombe had a good evening at the plate.  He popped a two-run clout over the
fence in the 2nd inning and cleared the fences for a two-run home run in the
6th inning.  Washington had a total of 11 hits for the game.  

Newcombe(9-7) was credited with the shutout. Joe Ostrowski(2-3) was given the
loss.  He surrended 3 homeruns in his 5 and 2/3 innings.
