Pittsburgh scored the winning runs in the top of the 8th inning plating 3 runs using 3 hits. Joe Battin opened up the inning nicely when he reached on an error. After an out was recorded, Barr stepped up to the plate and he reached on an error. Swartwood then stroked a base-hit, and an error was also committed, scoring two teammates. Billy Taylor came up and he delivered a single scoring the final run of the inning. The Pittsburgh offense smacked the St. Louis pitching staff around, scoring in 7 of the 9 innings.
