WEB GEMS- Top 4th: Granny Hamner robbed Joe Tipton of a base hit.

Mickey Mantle knocked 3 homeruns and had 7 RBI as the New York-AL Yankees
clobbered the outmatched Boston-AL Red Sox, 14 to 2.

Mantle was spectacular at the plate. He lined a single bringing in a run in
the 3rd inning, lifted one out of the park for a two run home run in the 4th
inning, smashed a two-run homer in the 5th inning and blasted a two-run home
run in the 7th inning. New York-AL had 18 hits for the afternoon while
Boston-AL had 7.

The victory went to Mel Parnell(9-4) who went 7 innings, allowing 2 runs. Bob
Hooper(4-8) was the losing pitcher. He was not very effective, surrendering
7 runs in 3 and 2/3 innings.

'It's almost like the ball was trying to hit my bat,' Mantle said. 'Whenever I
would swing, the ball found the sweet spot.'
