WEB GEMS- Bot 10th: Jackie Robinson robbed Carl Erskine of a base hit.

Right fielder Gus Bell lofted one into the 'cheap seats' at Griffith Stadium
as the Washington Nationals beat the Cincinnati Reds in 10 innings by the
count of 6 to 5.

Both teams were tied at 5 runs apiece after nine innings. Washington won it in
the 10th inning. Bell tripled. Jim Hegan stepped into the batter's box and
he was walked intentionally. After an out was recorded, Dom Dimaggio was
walked intentionally to load the bases. Irv Noren was up next and he singled
giving Washington the win much to the delight of the home town crowd.
Washington had 10 hits for the afternoon.

Carl Erskine(2-3) was the winner allowing no runs in 1 inning. Russ Meyer(3-4)
was the loser in relief. He surrendered 1 run and 2 hits in 1 and 1/3
