Right fielder Gus Bell lofted one into the 'cheap seats' at Griffith Stadium as the Washington Nationals beat the Cincinnati Reds in 10 innings by the count of 6 to 5. Both teams were tied at 5 runs apiece after nine innings. Washington won it in the 10th inning. Bell tripled. Jim Hegan stepped into the batter's box and he was walked intentionally. After an out was recorded, Dom Dimaggio was walked intentionally to load the bases. Irv Noren was up next and he singled giving Washington the win much to the delight of the home town crowd. Washington had 10 hits for the afternoon. Carl Erskine(2-3) was the winner allowing no runs in 1 inning. Russ Meyer(3-4) was the loser in relief. He surrendered 1 run and 2 hits in 1 and 1/3 innings.
