Whitey Ford tossed a complete game at Wrigely Field where the Chicago-NL Cubs
beat the Kansas City Athletics by the score of 3 to 2.

Kansas City surrendered all of the runs Chicago-NL needed in the 2nd inning
scoring 3 runners on 3 hits. That early run support was all that Ford(12-0)
required. Kansas City was retired without difficulty in the 9th.

Gerry Staley(3-2) was the losing pitcher. He was pinned with the loss despite
not allowing an earned run in his 6 innings of work.

'I just wanted to give my team a chance to win.' said Ford, 'I got burned on a
couple of pitches. But we won the game, and that's all that matters.'
