Al Spalding went the distance as the Boston club defeated the Philadelphia A
Athletics by the score of 6 to 5 at South End Grounds.
Boston had the winning rally in the bottom of the 8th inning with 2 runs on 2
hits. Andy Leonard led off the inning for Boston when he delivered a
one-base hit. Jim O'Rourke followed next and he reached on an error. After
an out was recorded, Spalding then slapped a base-hit which was good for two
runs. Philadelphia A tried unsuccessfully to come back in the 9th.
Spalding(34-8) was the winner allowing 5 runs for the game. The loss was
