Jim McCormick pitched a complete game at South End Grounds as the Pittsburgh
Alleghenys beat the Boston Beaneaters by the count of 9 to 4.

Pittsburgh took the lead for good in the top of the 2nd inning plating 2 runs
using 3 hits.  After an out was recorded, Pop Smith began the rally when he
was hit by a pitch.  Smith took second on a stolen base.  Art Whitney then
stroked a one-base hit.  Sam Barkley followed and he laced a base-hit
resulting in a run.  McCormick stepped into the box and hit a sacrifice fly
scoring the final run of the inning.  Pittsburgh had 13 hits for the
afternoon.  

McCormick(8-10) was the winner allowing 4 runs for the game. The losing
pitcher was Old Hoss Radbourn(10-12).  He was unable to control the
Pittsburgh offense and allowed 13 hits and 3 walks in 9 innings.
