One run was the difference at Griffith Stadium as the St. Louis Browns
defeated the Washington Nationals in 10 innings 3 to 2.

Both teams were tied at 1 runs apiece after nine innings.  St. Louis won the
game in the 10th inning.  After an out was recorded, Burt Shotton got things
rolling when he drew a walk.  Branch Rickey then called for a steal which was
successful.  Del Pratt then drew a walk.  Gus Williams followed and he drew a
walk to load the bases.  Ernie Walker stepped into the box and drew a walk
resulting in a run.  John Leary was a strikeout victim, unable to help out.
Ivan Howard was next and he drew a walk scoring the final run of the inning.
Although they lost, Washington did out-hit St. Louis 11 to 5.  

Bill James(8-7) got credit for the victory, pitching 9 innings and allowing 2
runs. Harry Hoch was credited with his 3rd save.  Harry Harper(0-2) was the
loser in relief.
