At Crosley Field the Cincinnati Reds outdistanced the New York Yankees by a
final score of 11 to 7.

Cincinnati scored 5 runs in the decisive 5th inning when they came up with 4
base hits.  The crucial at-bat was provided by Jackie Robinson who excited
the crowd when he doubled which was good for two runs.  Cincinnati won
despite being out-hit by New York 14 hits to 11.  

The victory was credited to Rip Sewell(7-1) who went 5 innings, allowing 6
runs. Ted Wilks was credited with his 11th save.  The loss was charged to Ken
Heintzelman(2-3) in relief.  He gave up 5 runs in 2 innings of work.
