Shortstop Marty Marion blasted a grand slam and Satchel Paige stopped
Washington cold as the Cincinnati Reds bested the Washington Nationals 9 to 6
at Crosley Field.

The home town fans were very appreciative of the fine hitting performance
provided by Marion.  He banged out a single bringing in a run in the 5th
inning and emptied the bases with a Grand Slam homerun in the 6th inning.
Washington proved to be no trouble in the 9th.  

The victory was credited to Dutch Leonard(5-7) who went 5 innings, allowing 3
runs. Paige was credited with his 11th save.  Bob Feller(6-6) was the loser.
He allowed 8 hits and no walks in 5 innings.
