Center fielder Larry Doby had 2 base hits and 3 RBI as the Cincinnati Reds
outscored the Chicago-NL Cubs 6 to 5.

Vern Bickford(8-5) got the win despite looking shaky at times. He gave up 4
runs, 10 hits and 6 walks in 7 innings. Chicago-NL had a chance to come back
in the 9th but they came up short.

Bickford got help from Bob Miller who was credited with his 7th save. The
loss was charged to Vic Raschi(4-9). He allowed 4 hits and 7 walks in 6 and
2/3 innings.

'Anytime you lose it hurts,' said Ron Mead 'but it's losing the close ones
that really hurt.'
