Elmer Valo had 5 hits and 6 RBI at Griffith Stadium as the Cincinnati Reds
beat the Washington Nationals 7 to 6.
The game was won by Cincinnati with a run in the top of the 9th inning. Bill
Virdon delivered a single. Two outs later Valo stepped up to the plate and
he laced a single scoring the run. Cincinnati had 13 hits for the game and
Washington had 7.
The victory was credited to Ray Crone(2-3) who went 1 inning, allowing no
runs. Don Bessent was credited with his 25th save. Fritz Dorish(1-1) was the
losing pitcher in relief. He pitched 2 and 2/3 innings and surrendered 4
hits and no walks.
'I had good swings today,' Valo said, 'Everything felt right'.
