WEB GEMS- Top 5th: George Van Haltren robbed Herman Long of an extra base hit.

Lou Bierbauer slammed 3 homeruns and had 5 RBI and Red Ehret had an impressive
outing at Exposition Park as the Pittsburg Pirates, running on all cylinders,
ripped the Boston Beaneaters by a large 19 to 0 margin.

Bierbauer really 'lit it up' for Pittsburg. He ripped a solo home run in the
2nd inning, smashed a two-run homer in the 3rd inning and lifted one out of
the park for a two run home run in the 5th inning. Pittsburg lit up the
scoreboard in the 2nd inning with 5 runs on 5 hits and the 3rd inning which
saw them score 7 runs on 5 hits. Pittsburg kept the pressure on throughout
the contest as they scored in 6 different innings.

For Ehret(12-6) it was his 2nd shutout this year. Bill Coyle(0-1) absorbed the
loss. He served up 4 gopher balls in 7 and 1/3 innings.

Frank Selee was obviously impressed with the pitching of Ehret, 'That guy made
us look a little silly out there this afternoon. We just couldn't get to him
at all - everything was working for him. I just hope that he got that kinda
performance out of his system.'
