Brickyard Kennedy pitched a complete game and Jimmy Sebring had 2 base hits as the Pittsburgh Pirates won in dramatic fashion over the reeling Brooklyn Superbas by a score of 7 to 6 at Exposition Park. Pittsburgh won the game with a rally in the 9th inning scoring 3 runs utilizing 2 base hits. Ed Phelps started the inning off right when he reached on an error. After an out was recorded, Ginger Beaumont stepped up to the plate and he slapped a one-base hit driving in a run. Beaumont was safe at second on a stolen base. Sebring followed next and he reached on an error. Honus Wagner stepped into the box and slapped a single scoring another run. One out later, Claude Ritchey came up and he was walked intentionally to load the bases. Henry Schmidt then threw a pitch that the catcher muffed making Pittsburgh the victor and beginning a joyous home town celebration. Brooklyn scored in 5 different innings, but their shaky pitching kept them from victory. The victory was credited to Kennedy(7-2) who went the distance, allowing 6 runs. Schmidt(9-7) was the losing pitcher. Fred Clarke was all smiles after the ballgame, 'It sure was looking pretty dim there for a while, but our guys never gave up - and neither did our fans - they kept cheering us on. What a sweet win!'
