Mickey Vernon cracked a homer and had 3 RBI as the Pittsburgh Pirates bested
the Cincinnati Reds 10 to 2 at Crosley Field.

Vernon had a big day against Cincinnati.  He belted a three-run homer in the
3rd inning, hit a single in the 5th inning and lined a one-base hit in the
7th inning.  Pittsburgh finished with 14 hits while Cincinnati ended up with
6.  

Billy Pierce(8-7) got the win allowing 1 run in 6 innings. Bob Friend was
credited with his 3rd save.  Bob Keegan(5-8) was given the loss.  He was
unable to control the Pittsburgh offense and allowed 9 hits and 3 walks in 5
innings.
