Jay Kirke had 6 hits and 6 RBI at Polo Grounds as the Cleveland Naps belted
the New York Yankees by the count of 17 to 1.
Kirke was a source of great heartache for the New York faithful all day. He
just kept pounding out hits! He doubled in the 2nd inning, hit a single in
the 4th inning, doubled bringing home two baserunners in the 5th inning,
doubled which plated a run in the 7th inning, lashed a one-base hit scoring
two baserunners in the 8th inning and doubled which scored a run in the 9th
inning. Cleveland bats were hot in the 5th inning which saw them score 4
runs on 4 hits and the 8th inning with 8 runs on 7 hits. Cleveland had many
opportunities throughout the game and scored in 6 separate innings.
Vean Gregg(4-5) allowed 1 run in 8 and 2/3 innings, and picked up the victory.
Cy Pieh(0-3) absorbed the loss. He was knocked around pretty good, giving up
6 runs in 4 and 1/3 innings.
