Charlie Sweeney went the distance and Lee Richmond had 4 hits and 2 RBI at
Lake Front Park as the Providence Grays beat the Chicago White Stockings 14
to 12.

Richmond enjoyed a fine day at the plate.  He tripled knocking in a run in the
1st inning, stroked a base-hit in the 3rd inning, doubled bringing in a run
in the 6th inning and stroked a one-base hit in the 9th inning.  Providence
bats were very productive in the 6th inning which saw them plate 5 runs on 6
hits.  Despite scoring in 5 separate innings, Chicago could not get the win.

Sweeney(7-1) was the winner allowing 12 runs for the game. Fred
Goldsmith(15-9) was hit with the loss.  Providence knocked him around a bit,
as he gave up 14 runs in 9 innings.
