WEB GEMS- Bot 7th: Monte Ward robbed Fatty Briody of a base hit.

Charlie Sweeney allowed Fred Dunlap to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete
game and first baseman Alex McKinnon had 3 base hits and 2 RBI at Union Park
where the St. Louis Maroons beat the New York Giants 9 to 8.

The game was won by St. Louis with a run in the 8th inning. Joe Quinn hit a
single. Tim Keefe then had one get away for a wild pitch. Jack Glasscock
then ripped a single scoring the run. A wild and woolly affair, this game
saw the lead change 5 times.

Sweeney(6-12) allowed 8 runs on the game. Keefe(13-6) was charged with the
loss. He was touched for 11 hits and 3 walks in 8 innings.

'I always am most impressed when a pitcher finds a way to win even without his
best stuff,' Dunlap said after the game. 'Sweeney did not have command of
his pitches most of the afternoon, but he proved he really knew how to
pitch!'
