Nixey Callahan had 4 hits and 6 RBI as the New York-NL Giants bested the
hapless Detroit Tigers 10 to 8 at Bennett Park.
Callahan had a big day at the plate. He doubled which brought home a run in
the 1st inning, laced a base-hit which was good for two runs in the 2nd
inning, cleared the fences for a two-run home run in the 7th inning and lined
a single plating a run in the 8th inning. Detroit had a chance in the 9th
but they came up short.
Nap Rucker(7-9) picked up the victory, allowing 5 runs in 6 innings. Rucker
was helped out by Jack Ferry who recorded his 10th save. Bob Groom(4-13)
took the loss. He was touched for 12 hits and 5 walks in 8 innings.
Jim Murphy was clearly disappointed after the game. 'It was a manager's
nightmare out there', he said, 'We should have had this one.'
