Center fielder Shano Collins had 4 hits and 3 RBI and Smoky Joe Wood allowed
Gordon Renaud to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete game as the Washington
Nationals defeated the Chicago-NL Cubs by the score of 10 to 6 at Griffith
Stadium.

It was a good day for Washington thanks to Collins.  He tripled which brought
home a run in the 3rd inning, ripped a base-hit in the 5th inning, tripled
which was good for two runs in the 6th inning and lashed a single in the 8th
inning.  Washington rapped out 16 hits for the afternoon.  

Wood(14-6) was the winner allowing 6 runs for the game. Rube Benton(8-10) was
the losing pitcher.  He got hammered, allowing 14 hits and 4 walks in 6
innings.
