Hoot Evers hit a homerun and had 2 RBI at Forbes Field where the Pittsburgh
Pirates beat the Washington Nationals 5 to 4.

Ewell Blackwell(12-4) pitched a solid game.  He went 7 and 1/3 innings
surrendering 8 hits and 3 walks.  Washington made it exciting in the 9th, but
they were unable to push the needed runs across.  

Blackwell was helped out by Bubba Church who recorded his 11th save.  Warren
Spahn(7-7) was tagged with the loss.  He pitched 8 innings and surrendered 9
hits and 3 walks.

'We didn't get the key hits when we needed them' Gordy Renaud said. 'We did
what we could, we just didn't pull out the win. What can you say?'
