The Philadelphia-NL Phillies came roaring back in the top of the ninth to
spoil the anticipated celebration of the hometown fans. The final score,,
was 8 to 5.

Philadelphia-NL had the winning rally in the 9th inning as they scored 5 runs
on 4 base hits. The key at-bat was by Hank Bauer who helped quiet the crowd
when he banged out a single bringing in two baserunners. Philadelphia-NL
banged out 8 hits on the night.

Steve Ridzik(8-1) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 2 and 1/3
innings. Ridzik got help from Ken Heintzelman who earned his 5th save. The
losing pitcher was Satchel Paige(6-4) in relief.

'I pin this one on my own shoulders,' Paige said. 'The bottom line is I didn't
get the job done. Our fans deserve better than this.'
