Baltimore came up with the deciding runs in the top of the 9th inning scoring 3 runs using 4 hits. After an out was recorded, Blondie Purcell began the Baltimore spurt when he stroked a base-hit. O'Brien was next and he doubled. Tommy Tucker then drew a walk. Phenomenal Smith followed next and he lofted a three-run bomb. Kansas City went down without a fight in the bottom of the 9th. The victory went to Cunningham(11-9) who went the distance allowing 8 runs. Bill Fagan(3-11) took the loss. He was knocked around by Baltimore, allowing 15 hits and 4 walks in 9 innings. After the game, it took a long while before Sam Barkley emerged from his office. In a subdued tone he answered only a couple of questions. He concluded with, 'Fellows, sorry I'm not in a very talkative mood this afternoon, as I think you'll understand. I'm sure you'll find the banter a lot more light-hearted over in the Baltimore locker room.'
