WEB GEMS- Top 7th: Hughie Jennings robbed Lave Cross of a base hit.

Jesse Burkett had 6 hits and 5 RBI as the St. Louis Perfectos bested the
Brooklyn Superbas 16 to 10 at Washington Park.

Burkett was unconscious out there. While Brooklyn pitching was serving
softballs up there for him to hit, the Brooklyn fans were serving up some
hardball barbs when he entered the batter's box. But he just used it as fuel
for the fire. He ripped a one-base hit in the 1st inning, doubled bringing
in a run in the 2nd inning, laced a single plating a run in the 4th inning,
delivered a solo blast in the 6th inning, laced a base-hit bringing home two
baserunners in the 7th inning and lashed a base-hit in the 9th inning. St.
Louis lit up the scoreboard in the 4th inning which saw them score 4 runs on
4 hits and the 7th inning with 4 runs on 4 hits. Due to a poorly pitched
ballgame, scoring in 6 different innings was still not enough for Brooklyn to
come away with the victory.

The victory went to Cy Young(14-7) who went the distance allowing 10 runs. Al
Maul(0-4) was given the loss. He got hit hard, allowing 12 hits and 3 walks
in 6 and 2/3 innings.

St. Louis now has a record of 41-30. With the loss, Brooklyn has a record of
4-6 lately, 42-30 overall.
