Center fielder Fred Beck jacked one out of the ballyard and had 5 RBI as the
Detroit Tigers defeated the Brooklyn Dodgers by the score of 7 to 3 at
Washington Park.
Beck had a big day against Brooklyn. He doubled which was good for two runs
in the 1st inning, singled bringing in two baserunners in the 3rd inning and
lofted a solo-blast 'downtown' in the 9th inning. Detroit had 12 hits for
the afternoon while Brooklyn had 5.
George Bell(7-3) allowed 3 runs in 7 innings, and picked up the victory. Bell
got help from Ed Walsh who was credited with his 6th save. Christy
Mathewson(8-5) was hit with the loss. He was knocked around by Detroit,
allowing 11 hits and 2 walks in 7 innings.
