With the hometown crowd on the edge of their seats, St. Louis Cardinals came
from behind to top Boston Braves, 5 to 4.

St. Louis scored the winning runs in the bottom of the 9th inning plating 2
runs utilizing 3 base hits. Wally Smith led off and started the rally when
he drew a walk. Ed Konetchy came to the plate and singled. Two outs later
Possum Whitted came to bat and lined a base-hit, and an error was also
committed, scoring a single run. Jack Bliss followed next and he was walked
intentionally to load the bases. Ray Rolling stepped into the box and
smacked a one-base hit giving St. Louis the win much to the delight of the
home town crowd. Overall St. Louis out-hit Boston 12 to 7.

The winning pitcher was Gene Woodburn(1-4) who allowed no runs in 1 inning.
Bill McTigue(2-3) suffered the loss in relief. He allowed a few too many
baserunners giving up 6 hits and 3 walks in 2 innings.

'That was exciting!,' Konetchy said. 'I would have paid money to watch this
one.'
