Ken Raffensberger took a no-hitter into the 6th inning as the Cincinnati Reds
won a heart-stopping victory over the Brooklyn Dodgers, 2 to 1.

The game was decided in the bottom of the 9th inning.  After an out was
recorded, Enos Slaughter drew a walk.  Del Crandall next to the plate and he
laced a one-base hit.  Nellie Fox then drew a walk to load the bases.  Pete
Runnels followed and he drew a walk giving Cincinnati the victory and sending
the 24,415 home-town fans home happy.  The teams had been locked in a
scoreless duel until the 8th inning.  

Jim McDonald(4-1) was the winner allowing no runs in 1 inning.  The
left-handed Raffensberger lost his chance for a no-hitter when Whitey Lockman
singled with two outs in the 6th inning.  Jim Hughes(0-2) was the loser in
relief.  His ERA ballooned from 3.86 to 6.75 as he allowed 1 run in 1/3 of an
inning.
