Heinie Kappel smacked 3 homeruns and had 4 RBI and Mark Baldwin allowed Al
Buckenberger to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete game as the Columbus
Solons bested the Cincinnati Red Stockings 10 to 9 at League Park.

Kappel was a one-man wrecking crew. He smashed a bases-empty 'big-fly' in the
2nd inning, clubbed a solo home run in the 4th inning and blasted a two-run
home run in the 7th inning. Cincinnati made it exciting in the 9th, but they
were unable to push the needed runs across.

The win went to Baldwin(10-14) who allowed 9 runs in the game. Lee Viau(9-13)
was given the loss. He allowed 3 homeruns in 9 innings of work.
