Ellis was unconscious out there. While Boston pitching was serving softballs up there for him to hit, the Boston fans were serving up some hardball barbs when he entered the batter's box. But he just used it as fuel for the fire. He clubbed a two-run home run in the 1st inning and depressed the partisan hometown fans with a grand slam home run in the 7th inning. St. Louis finished with 12 hits in the victory. Sallee(9-9) was the winner allowing 1 run for the game. Hub Perdue(1-4) took the loss. He surrendered 6 runs in 6 and 2/3 innings and saw his ERA increase from 2.55 to 3.12. With this win, St. Louis has a 38-37 record. They have been 5-5 lately. Fred Tenney was unhappy with his club's recent performance. 'We can't keep losing games' he said. 'It gets to be embarrassing after a while.'
