In a great finish the Washington Nationals came back in the top of the ninth
and held on to win over the Boston-AL Red Sox by a score of 5 to 4 at
Huntington Ave Grnds.

Boston-AL never recovered after Washington took the lead in the 6th inning
plating an isolated run on 3 base hits. Despite losing, Boston-AL out-hit
Washington 12 to 8.

Smoky Joe Wood(8-6) went 8 and 2/3 innings allowing 4 runs for the win. George
Chalmers got the save, his 4th. Ed Willett(1-4) absorbed the loss. He
allowed 5 hits and 1 walk in 5 and 2/3 innings.

'I always am most impressed when a pitcher finds a way to win even without his
best stuff,' Gordon Renaud said after the game. 'Wood did not have command
of his pitches most of the afternoon, but he proved he really knew how to
pitch!'
