Bob Harmon allowed Jim Murphy to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete game at
Navin Field as the Detroit Tigers beat the Boston-AL Red Sox by the count of
5 to 3.

Harmon(8-5) pitched well for Detroit in their victory.  He surrendered 11 hits
and no walks in 9 innings.  Boston-AL had a chance in the 9th but they came
up short.  

Ed Willett(3-7) was the loser in relief.  He was not very effective,
surrendering 4 runs in 2 innings.  'Anytime you lose it hurts,' said Roy
Purcell 'but it's losing the close ones that really hurt.'
