Hal Newhouser tossed a shutout and Phil Cavarretta hit one over the fence and
had 2 RBI as the blistering-hot Washington Nationals defeated the Cleveland
Indians by a score of 5 to 0 at Griffith Stadium.

Newhouser(8-5) was in control of the game from the outset.  He allowed just 6
hits and 1 walk in 9 innings reducing his ERA from 3.06 to 2.86.  Washington
banged out 7 hits on the afternoon.  

Bill Voiselle(4-3) ended up with the loss.  Washington remained hot, improving
their record to 49-31.  They now have a record of 9-1 in recent days.  With
this loss, Cleveland has a 7-3 record of late, 42-38 overall.
