Bill Phillips went the distance at League Park as the St. Louis Cardinals lost
a heartbreaker to Cincinnati Reds by the score of 9 to 8.
The game was won by Cincinnati with a run in the 9th inning. Jake Beckley
lined a single. Sam Crawford next to the plate and he doubled making
Cincinnati the victor and beginning a joyous home town celebration. The
score went back-and-forth with the lead changing 5 times.
The winning pitcher was Phillips(7-5) who allowed 8 runs for the game. Cowboy
Jones(6-8) suffered the loss. He was not very effective, surrendering 9 runs
in 8 innings.
