Andy Coakley had a strong outing as the Detroit Tigers defeated the
Philadelphia-AL Athletics 2 to 1 at Columbia Park.

The deciding run was scored by Detroit in the top of the 8th.  After an out
was recorded, Johnny Evers reached on an error.  One out later, Cy Young then
unleashed a wild pitch.  Frank Chance then lined a single scoring the run.
Philadelphia-AL made it exciting in the 9th, but they were unable to push the
needed runs across.  

Red Ames(10-8) allowed no runs in 2 innings, and picked up the victory. Ames
got relief help from Jesse Tannehill who gained credit for his 2nd save.
Young(11-12) took the loss.  Despite taking the loss, he whiffed 12 batters
in 9 innings.
