Bill Salkeld jacked one out of the ballyard and had 2 RBI as the New York
Yankees defeated the St. Louis Cardinals in 11 innings by the score of 9 to 8
at Yankee Stadium.

The score was tied at 8 after nine.  New York came out on top in the 11th
inning.  Al Dark banged out a single.  After an out was recorded, Hermanski
swiped second base.  Richie Ashburn then ripped a base-hit giving New York
the win much to the delight of the home town crowd.  A wild affair, this game
saw the lead change 5 times.  

The win was credited to Ned Garver(6-5) who went 6 and 2/3 innings allowing 1
run. Tom Ferrick(2-3) ended up with the loss in relief.  

Wth the win New York now has a record of 46-39.  With the loss, the St. Louis
ballclub's record is 34-47.
