Carl Erskine pitched a complete game as the Washington Nationals defeated the
New York-AL Yankees in 10 innings by the score of 12 to 5 at Yankee
Stadium.

The score was knotted at 5 after nine innings.  Washington won it in the 10th
inning.  The highlight belonged to Roy Sievers who helped quiet the crowd
when he doubled emptying the bases.  Washington totaled 13 hits on the
afternoon.  

Erskine(7-5) lasted until the end allowing 5 runs for the win. The losing
pitcher was George Zuverink(2-3) in relief.  By surrending 7 runs in 1 inning
his ERA jumped from 4.95 to 5.64.
