One run was the difference at Polo Grounds as the Boston-NL Beaneaters
defeated the New York-NL Giants in 11 innings 6 to 5.

Both teams were tied at 5 runs apiece after nine innings.  Boston-NL came out
the victor in the 11th inning.  Socks Seybold lashed a single.  Dave Shean
followed and he delivered a single.  After another out, Charley O'Leary then
worked the squeeze play to perfection scoring the run.  New York-NL had 14
hits in the game while Boston-NL had 11, but Boston-NL had the more timely
hits.  

The win went to Frank Smith(3-4) who allowed 4 runs in 2 and 2/3 innings.
Lefty Leifield preserved the game for Smith, recording his his 1st save.  Joe
Harris(0-2) was tagged with the loss in relief.  He pitched 2 innings and
surrendered 2 hits and no walks.

The Boston-NL ballclub's record now stands at 46-44.  With this loss, New
York-NL has a 3-7 record of late, 38-47 overall.
