In a good matchup it was the New York Yankees 10, the Pittsburgh Pirates 8 in
12 innings at Forbes Field.

The game was deadlocked at 8 after nine full innings.  New York came out on
top in the 12th inning.  After an out was recorded, Bill Salkeld jump-started
the rally as he doubled.  Snuffy Stirnweiss stepped into the batter's box and
he tripled driving in a run.  After another out, Frankie Gustine then lashed
a single scoring the final run of the inning.  Pittsburgh out-hit New York 18
to 15, but New York ended up with more runs.  

The winning pitcher was Vern Bickford(4-2) who allowed no runs in 3 innings.
Johnny Vander Meer recorded his 1st save.  Bobby Hogue(5-3) suffered the loss
in relief.
