Wish Egan went the distance at South End Grounds where the St. Louis Cardinals
beat the Boston Beaneaters 8 to 5.

St. Louis went ahead for good in the top of the 5th inning plating 3 runs on 4
base hits.  Jimmy Burke kicked off the action when he reached on an error.
After an out was recorded, Egan came to the plate and laced a one-base hit.
After another out, Harry Arndt then stroked a single, and an error was also
committed, driving in a run.  Homer Smoot was up next and he slapped a single
accounting for two more runs.  Although they lost, Boston did out-hit St.
Louis 18 to 12.  

Egan(6-9), allowing 5 runs for the game, picked up the victory. Vic
Willis(5-16) was the losing pitcher.  He was knocked around by St. Louis,
allowing 12 hits and 4 walks in 9 innings.
